The necessity of flame retardant rubber sheet.

In recent years, rubber products have been widely used in many industries. Rubber ropes, wires and cables, air ducts, conveyor belts, hoses, rubber belts, and rubber products in the electronic and electrical industry must meet relevant standards and requirements in terms of flame retardancy and mechanical properties. At present, various industries have increasingly higher requirements for the flame retardancy of rubber products, so the development and application of flame retardant rubbers are very important.


There are many types of rubber, and different rubbers have different combustion properties. Most rubbers have relatively low oxygen index and decomposition temperature, which is very easy to burn. Therefore, according to the combustion characteristics of different rubbers, adding an appropriate amount of flame retardant or improving the combustion performance of the rubber itself has become an important means for preparing flame retardant rubbers.

2. Several important methods of making flame retardant rubber.

The main flame retardant methods are to slow down the thermal decomposition and block the combustion process. The four common flame retardant methods are as follows:

1. Add one or more substances to change the thermal decomposition behavior of the rubber, make the thermal decomposition temperature of the rubber become high, and reduce the flammable gas produced by the decomposition.


2. The added substance can generate non-combustible gas when heated, or produce materials that cut off oxygen, or can absorb heat when heated so that the three elements of combustion (flammable, oxygen, reaching the ignition point) cannot be met.


3. Adding substances that can capture HO, interrupt the chain reaction, and stop flame propagation.

4. Change the structure or properties of the rubber molecular chain, improve the thermal decomposition ability, or make it flame retardant.

Due to the good compatibility between the rubber and various additives, adding various flame retardants is still an important way to achieve rubber flame retardant.
