Classification and status of flame retardant materials

Adding flame retardants to synthetic rubber sheets can improve their flame retardancy. The article mainly introduces the principle, classification and development trend of flame retardant.

Most synthetic rubber sheets do not have the characteristics of flame retardancy. It is necessary to add flame retardants to the rubber to form flame retardant rubber sheets, such as SBR rubber sheets.

The flame retardant is a polymer synthetic material booster. The use of the flame retardant can improve the flame retardant performance of the rubber sheet, thereby avoiding the material burning and the spread of fire, and promoting the rubber sheet to have smoke extinguishing, self-extinguishing and flame resistance.

In recent years, flame retardant materials have been used more widely. Generally speaking, flame retardant materials can be divided into organic flame retardant materials and inorganic flame retardant materials. Among them, organic flame retardant materials are mainly halogen additives. Inorganic materials not only have good flame retardant effects, but also produce hydrogen chloride and prevent smoke. Compared with organic flame retardant materials, inorganic flame retardant materials are cheap and non-corrosive.

1. Halogen flame retardant. This kind of flame retardant has high output and wide application range. The flame retardant principle of the halogen flame retardant is that the material added with the flame retardant generates hydrogen halide radicals during combustion, which can effectively prevent combustion transmission. Halogen flame retardants are widely used in thermoplastic materials and thermosetting materials. They have the characteristics of good compatibility and easy use, and have been used in automobiles, packaging, textiles and other industries.

2. Phosphorous flame retardant. Common phosphorus flame retardants include phosphate and red phosphorus, of which red phosphorus is the most widely used. However, materials containing red phosphorus flame retardants are susceptible to oxidation and release harmful gases, and dust generated by combustion is likely to cause an explosion, which has a greater danger. Therefore, the use of such flame retardant materials is subject to greater restrictions. Later, after improvement, it was found that adding metal hydroxide to the red phosphorus flame retardant can largely solve this problem.

3. Nitrogen flame retardant. Common nitrogen-based flame retardants include melamine, melamine cyanurate (MCA), and the like. Generally, nitrogen / phosphorus is required as a flame retardant synergist.

4. Metal oxide flame retardant. This type of flame retardant is mainly to add flame retardant metal elements to the flame retardant substrate in the form of simple substance or compound, and to fully mix with the polymer in a physically dispersed state. Common metal oxide flame retardants are aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide.

In recent years, the use of flame retardants in various regions has continued to increase.
