What is rock wool insulation material? Introduction for the types and characteristics of rock wool insulation materials

Time:2019-09-20
This paper mainly introduces the definition, production process, detailed classification method of rock wool, and the difference of the characteristics between rock wool and mineral wool.

The rock wool insulation using high-quality basalt as the main raw material. After melting at a temperature of above 1450 °C, the four-roller centrifugal cotton process is used to pull the Xuanwu cotton rock's high-temperature solution into a discontinuous fiber of 4-7 μm. A certain amount of binder, dustproofing agent and water repellent agent are added to the rockwool fiber, and after being subjected to sedimentation, solidification, cutting and so on, a series of products have different densities are prepared according to different uses.

In the later market, due to the high cost of basalt, manufacturers have adopted slag (boiler waste from power plants) instead of basalt for production. People define it as “mineral cotton”, and it is still referred to as “rock wool” in the market. Therefore, often the price of rock wool of some manufacturers is extremely low.

At present, most manufacturers produce them by using materials mixed “slag” and “basalt”.

Classification of rock wool

Divided by form: rock wool insulation board; rock wool blanket; rock wool insulation tube; rock wool strip; rock wool flower

Divided by function:Mineral wool board; rock wool board; outer wall rock wool board; roof rock wool board; fire rock wool black cotton board; hydrophobic rock wool board; fire isolation belt; rock wool for boat; composite rock wool board; composite rock wool strip.

Characteristics of rock wool

The thermal conductivity of rock wool is less than mineral wool.

Rock wool has better acid resistance, but mineral wool is poor. Therefore, when the wall seeps, it will corrode and reduce the mineral wool's service life, generally 18 years, and the service life of rock wool is generally close the wall;

The tensile coefficient of rock wool is large, and the  load-bearing range is larger;

Rock wool fiber's filaments are relatively long; mineral wool's fiber filaments are short and fly dust is more.
